We've been contacted by a national magazine looking for a great weight loss story! They are particularly looking for a woman between the ages of 25 and 50 who lost weight and got fit as a result of signing up with MapMyWalk.com or one of our other sites! She would have to agree to be interviewed and photographed for the magazine, and I would need before and after pictures (candid shots are fine) before seeking final approval.
They are looking for a woman but I say hey, let's open it to everyone!
Post your stories below -- Share with us your success! Losing weight and getting fit is an amazing accomplishment... We always get these great stories through our feedback and this is one of the reasons I love this site! This would be great motiviation to those who are on this path!
I lost ~47lbs (from about 190lbs to about 143lbs between Sept 2006 and April 2007) and kept it off until the last month (broken ankle in November resulted in no running/walking) but now I am back on mapmyrun and picking up the pace again thanks to my fabulous physiotherapist who is also an athletic trainer. I am now up to ~146lbs-ish but hoping that it will soon melt off.
My biggest achievement was starting the 10 weeks to 5k program with Runner's World and using map my run to work out the distances - then in October 2007 (on my birthday!) I ran the Ackland Half-Marathon in New Zealand.
I'm no inspiration but if I can do it, hell, *anyone* can do it!
I fall into the "everyone" category of your invitation :)
MapMyFitness helped me lose over 35 pounds, and still going! On 5-April-2007, I weighed 310+ pounds. As of 22-Feburary-2008, I'm down to 278 and in much better shape.
Since July, I've used MapMyRide to track and inspire my progress. I was thrilled when the ASICS challenges appeared in January...just the thing to give fresh life to my winter exercise. On January 26, I joined the ASICS "300 miles in 30 days" cycling challenge and pedaled through the cold and ice of Soutwestern Ontario to beat the goal in 27 days. I could never have done that a year ago.
MapMyRide provides me a place to revel in each day's exercise victory. Most importantly, the site empowers me to plan my pace by giving me a handle on distances, calories, and the time needed to reach reasonable targets.
Thanks for the help, encouragement, and challenges! Here's to another productive year!
I have lost the last 30 or so pounds (out of a total of 80) with Mapmyrun. I started losing weight 3.5 years ago, I only wish I had found this site sooner. Being able to map my runs inspired me to go for longer runs and I always enjoy being able to go back and look at my stats from a run or compare to another run. Currently I am training for a 25K, I can't imagine doing so without this website. After a run I can't wait to get inside to enter in my time and miles. The site has great resources for everything a runner could ever need, I think you guys rock and am grateful for Mapmyrun!
Well I'm not a woman, but in May of 2007 I weighed in at 273 at 6'4"
with a 44" inch waist. I was a sophomore in college and was not happy
with having to hide myself and not be able to enjoy myself when all my
friends would go to the beach and pools.
In December of 2007 I
felt enough was enough and wanted to enjoy myself and to start having
some self esteem. I felt as if I ever wanted to start my business and
do well in life with a job I felt I would have to prove to myself that
I could finish what I started. In December I started running just
around my block which was maybe half a mile mile at most for a couple
weeks, and in a month got to 2-3 miles consistently. It was my first
time in my life that I was ever able to run 3 miles.
I started
first using gmap pedometer but then found out about the mapmyrun.com
site and also joesgoals.com which monitored my goals for each day. I
used these sites daily, and made sure they were my first sites to go to
even before google. I would also take pictures of me and then photoshop
myself on what I could look like. I also put up a mirror with some of
my favorite quotes around me which motivated me each and every day.
Today I weigh in at 208 pounds, losing a little less than 70 pounds,
and feel the best I have ever felt in my life. My shirt size dropped
from a XXL to a Large and a waist of 44" to 34". I can now shop at
normal stores to buy my clothes, and it feels amazing.
Today
I consistently run atleast 6 miles 5 days a week, and will run one 12
mile run at least one day out of the week. I am competing in my first
race which will be the Disneyland in August.
(Short tale) At my heaviest I weighed 248, now im 226, lost 22 lbs since I started running (About 1 yr. now), I feel amazing! Running is the best as long as you stick to it and maintain a healthy status, thanks! Eric
