I'm glad to hear you see it normally, maybe it is just my browser. I use IE6, not sure what a VML addon is but I suspect I don't have it. Can you tell me what it is and where I might get it?
Another odd thing is that simultaneous with losing the lines, my embedded rides no longer work. For example, see http://mgmom.com/vashon_maury.aspx. When I go to this page I now get a page can't be found error. It's odd cuz I embedded the code, it worked, I did nothing to it, and now it doesn't work. Any ideas?
Thanks for your help.
Some people have VML turned off in their browser -- Some security programs disable this to be safe because of an old vulnerability that has been patched by Microsoft.
Here is a utility to turn VML on/off:

My map lines have also disappeared. I have restarted the machine, opened new browsers and still have the same issue.
FeltF3C
Felt,
Have you tried this utility? Can you email feedback@mapmyfitness.com a screenshot of what you are seeing?

Same problem here. The route 'highlight' lines work when I'm plotting my ride/run. However, after the route is saved, I can no longer see the lines.
I use IE 6.0.2900.2180
I downloaded and installed the VML utility, and 'enabled' VML and I'm still having the issue.
I can see lines on some of my rides, but not on this one:
http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/united-states/ca/san-jose/650993143568
I'll run the utility, but since lines display on other ride maps, this doesn't seem likely to be the problem.
Any other ideas?
Thanks,
Chris
We discovered another cause of some of these IE6 issues -- it had to do with the version of our Google Map API and IE6 issues. We've updated versions that address a bug that Google fixed.
kotakoli : how does it look for you now?

Still not working, for me in IE6, I have tried the patch you mentioned above and have shut down my system since your most recent post but still does not show the lines. Here is a link to one of my maps.

I'm having the same problem with this route. I can see the mile markers but not the lines connecting them. This is the only of my routes it happens with. I don't know if it is coincidence or not but it is also the only route I have that I used the "loop" feature on.

Having the same problem. I am using IE6 - corporate requirement. I cannot use Firefox (unfortunately). I am able to see the route lines for some routes, but not on others. On the others, I am able to see the aid and restroom markers, but not the route lines. When I download the other routes and create a PDF, I can see and print a map that includes the route lines.
I have experienced this with IE7, Firefox, Safari, and Opera Browsers On all routes that I have used the Loop Feature on. I will try again without using Loop.
Is anyone from MapMyRide tech team looking into this widespread problem? It will be nice if someone comes forward owning the issue, provie updates and ultimatley a recommendation/solution.
In my case, I have 2 computers (home Desktop and office laptop) The home computer shows the lines, the offcice coputer do not even after applying the mentioned utility. I will check the IE explorer settings between both computer to see if there are any siginficant diferences.
Regards...
since I retried everything without using the loop feature as mentioned in my previous post I have had no problems. I believe the problem lies within the looping.
I can't complain too much since I am just using the free service... However I would like to mention it will keep me from joining the paid premium service.
I mainly use MapMyRide to plan some routes and figure the mileage. I mainly use it for my wife and family members to know where I am in case anything would happen, they know the route I am on before I leave.
Hello Everyone,
Our developers pushed a fix to the missing route line problem on Friday, August 1. If anyone is still experiencing problems, please be sure to let us know.
Thanks to all of you for your patience as we troubleshooted this problem.
~ Gisela
Gisela, please pass along our thanks to your team for fixing the map lines. It is working!
One last favor/item I will like you to look into... The Rute information box at the top right works for the elevation but not so if I select any view other than the initial Street View. Like I shared erlier; this feature works in my home computer but not on my company issued laptop.
Thakns in advance!
Edgardo.
Works great!!! I can see all my lines.
HOWEVER, when I switch to edit mode, the lines disappear again.
Hi Edgardo,
You are very welcome - and thanks for your nice note!
In regards to the elevation not appearing on your work laptop, it might have to do with certain safety/firewall settings. If you are allowed to adjust any of your security settings, you might want to match them to your home computer and see if that takes care of the missing elevation problem.
Again, thank you very much for your note!
~ Gisela
MWagner,
Thank you for your update.
I'm glad the route lines are visible in regular mode, but I am sorry that you still cannot see them in the edit mode.
If anyone else experiences this problem in edit mode, please post your route URL and your browser. This has tended to be a problem exclusive to IE6.
Thanks again,
~ Gisela
I am having the opposite problem as mgwagner. I can see my map lines only in the edit mode, but not otherwise:
http://www.mapmyrun.com/run/united-states/ab/calgary/572187804168
I just posted this problem on another thread.
Similarly, in searching other peoples' running routes, sometimes their map lines do not show up.
I am having the same problem, no route lines on a ride I plotted today.
http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/united-states/ca/carmel/931527164924
Same problem here. Only start and end markers when in "view" mode:
http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/united-states/nc/aberdeen/431614970658
I can see lines in Edit mode.
IE 6.0.2900.2180.xpx2_gdr.070227-2254CO
Me too. I cannot view the routes on my saved rides (all over 10 miles). However, I am able to view the routes in my saved runs (all except 1, which is over 10 miles). Only the 'Start' markers are visible, and the 'End' markers on the routes where I added them.
I can plot a route, and the route is visible. However, when the route is saved and then recalled, the route is not visible.
When choosing the 'Edit' option, the routes are displayed.
Running IE6 on Windows XP SP2 in a corporate environment. Checked with a co-worker, and they cannot see the routes either (same OS, browser, etc).
Same problem with my map too. I've been struggling with it for two hours and finally got it all right and then the lines disappear. :(
Not much to add other than I cannot see the route line on some saved routes of mine. It seems to be the longer ones that do not show up.
Also when I cannot see the route line the mile markers do not show up either. However, if I click to switch the units they start showing up.
Great site, thanks for all the work on it!
Like Diep reported 4 days ago, the mile/KM markers start showing up when the map is forced to manually refresh when changing the units. The route lines are still missing. I have IE 6.0.29 The vml utility does not make a difference either. Is anyone in the development/support team still looking into this? An update will be great! Thanks in advance!
A new user here, with same disappearing lines problem.
So I fire off an email and get told individual replies are prioritized to premium members ( my $ 20 credit doesn't count for much then).
Surely this problem is fundamental to the operation of your site and as such deserves your time to come up with an idiot's guide to cracking this problem, under all the variety of usual operating systems/versions ( mine is IE7.0.5730.11).
Ok, it may be a security level setting problem ( mine is norton/symantec) and I do grasp that we are going through different sites/URL's for mapping a run and then viewing it (I think) but I am trying to improve my running not my understanding of and tinkering with sophisticated computer systems - I thought that was what you were doing. VML - never heard of it - VPL , yes.
Come on, please get it sorted with a detailed techhy note, so I can at least understand the issues to start with and then hopefully a "fix your system note" ( which does not open the backdoor to the internet bandits who use VML {whatever it is} to gain access, I undestand)....please.
Hi GoodCo,
This is an issue we've been working on -- If you google 'google map polyline bug' you can see hundreds of postings in regards to the various issues:
Issue 1: Zoom Level - This was a known Google API Bug that caused encoded poylines to fail at certain zoom levels. We believe this is fixed.
Issue 2: VML - If you want your browser to render the polyline correctly, the VML namespace needs to be loaded (http://code.google.com/apis/maps/documentation/#XHTML_and_VML)
A simple fix for us to make sure we're including the VML namespace and the correct CSS tag (i.e., http://www.daftlogic.com/information-no-polylines-in-google-maps.htm)
However another complex issue is that browsers can block VML - there was a VML exploit a while ago which caused a lot of the recent issues with VML. It has since been patched however many programs still hamper VML and therefore block the polyline from being rendered.
See:

Let me know if this is helpful to you -- If you find a work around, please post it here. We'll still work on something on our end...
-Kevin
