This is the 6.2 mile (10 km) ROAD course loop NOT the Jogger PATH at Stony Creek MetroPark. My bicycle odometer consistenly says 6.2 miles or 10 km per lap. The park office agrees with this. MapMyRide says 6.01 miles for some reason. This is the Clockwise Inside Lane which is the direction most cyclists ride. If you ride CounterClockwise on the outer Lane, you will go a slightly longer distance but have to make an abrupt turn near the entrance. I have rode this loop literally hundreds of times over many years. It has three hills that are of small difficulty. In all, MayMyRide says you will do 148 feet of climbing/descending on every loop. The toughest climb is the long grade up along the golf course which ends in a short 2% grade - the steepest on the circuit. There is a path on the inside of this loop that is good for joggers and slower bicycles. Stony has been gradually repaving the road over the past few years. The section along the boat launch was repaved in late 2010. It will great when they finally repave it all the way around if they ever do. There is now a half mile section near Eastwood beach that is a washboard type surface. This section gets the most road traffic in the park. As soon as this section is replaced you will have a very smooth ride all around the park. If you can do the loop in faster than 15 minutes (24-25 mph 40km/h average) than you are fast. It is the best non-stop loop course that I know of in Michigan. My best average speed for 5 loops is 26.2 mph on a recumbent bicycle. My fastest down the biggest hill is 45 mph. If you wanted to do a marathon distance of 26.2 miles starting at the exit out of the lot by boat launch, 26.2 miles would take you about 4 and 1/3 laps, and you'd finish just cresting the big hill along the golf course. You'd also climb this hill five times as you'd be on your fifth lap at that point. I found this out the hard way, as I always start from the same lot by the Boat Launch - this is where most start their runs or rides - its also where the markings start at 0.0 miles and reach 6.0 miles on the inside jogger path.
