Notes:
I came to what I thought was a choice between two frontage roads. One had a "no outlet" sign, so I took the other – which, unfortunately, turned out not to be a frontage road, but instead was an off-ramp from I-494. After contemplating my options (including running on the interstate to the next exit), I doubled back and took the "no outlet" route. ...... Nicolet Avenue was my objective as it was the connection to American Boulevard and the way back to the hotel where we were staying for the evening. I had carefully mapped the route on the iPad before taking off and I was sure it was not supposed to involve crossing railroad tracks and running through the Home Depot warehouse parking lot full of semis and forklifts, but that's where I found myself. ...... When I finally emerged from this bewildering portion of the “urban jungle,” I encountered not Nicolet, but, instead, Lyndale Avenue: I had overshot the turnaround point by a distance roughly equal to three or four blocks. As it turned out, I had unknowingly crossed Nicolet at the point when I was trying to decide between "frontage" roads. ...... The lesson learned was, "Never run in an urban environment that you are almost totally unfamiliar with unless you have done a little reconnaissance during the daylight hours first."
