Indian Peaks Marathon, aka Pawnee/Buchanan Loop
A run/hike over two major Continental Divide passes (Buchanan Pass at 11,837' and Pawnee Pass at 12,541') through some of the most incredible scenery in the Front Range. Additionally, there is a ~1000' up/down over the lower slopes of Mt. Audubon near Brainard Lake Recreation Area. Traditionally it is run counter-clockwise as it is a bit more runnable in this direction. The distance works out almost perfectly to marathon distance and the vertical gain/loss is about 6500'. Water is available from several mountain streams (filter or treat). Rescue is difficult from this one, so be sure you know what you're getting yourself in for! - a 41675.8 m activity route in Ward, Colorado
