I am looking for some advise on Knee Pain. After a 6 mi run I started having pain in my left knee. I just started to hit 35 miles a week. After laying off for a few day and icing on and off the pain was gone only go come back after i did 1 mile.

I don't have any swelling and it seems not to hurt when walking. Also, at first it only hurt going up and down stairs and now that has stopped.

I went to the chiroprator and she felt my hip was off and the knee was ok. On my last run I did 3 miles and about 1.5 miles in the pain started and I was able to run through it.

Does anyone esle run through their knee pain until it passes? Are there any stretches I should be doing to help my knee etc?

Thanks for any help.

Swimming (yeah off topic I know) Advice

 Hi,
I've recently started swimming as a part of my fitness training (I run and do martial arts so trying to build strength and stamina for both). I go swimming four times a week (at least) for between 15 mins to 1hr depending on what other activities I have done / am planning to do.

I love swimming - heck I'm a marine biologist so I have to! My problem is my swimming technique - it's lousy! I swim like a girl (okay so I am a girl but still) and I want to swim properly. I usually do breast stroke (my crawl technique is even worse).

Today I narrowed this down to the fact that I don't know how to do the breathing properly, I think if I got the breathing sorted (for B-S or Crawl) I could work on the technique

Can anyone give me any pointers? I'd really appreciate it!

Cheers

A Cure For "Shin Splints"

Here is a cure for "shin splints". While sitting in a chair, take a bath towel and lay it flat on a bare floor in front of you, so it's at it's longest length. "Scrunch" the towel up with your toes pulling it towards you until you have gone the length of the towel. Now, "reverse scrunch" the towel pushing it out away from you. Do this exercise at least once a day for a couple of weeks and you'll notice a huge difference! My H.S. track Coach gave me this cure 25 years ago and it works every time!

Thank you to everyone who has been sending us feedback. We did a major release of this tool yesterday that we hope addressed the majority of issues.

One issue we see again is people noticing that they're unable to click in parks or "on their house" -- If you have FOLLOW ROADS enabled, the system will keep you to the roads. Try turning this off if you're trying to get through a park, or alley, or some other way that a car cannot travel to.

Please post your new comments / problems here. We look forward to hearing them!

If you are looking for the old forum with feedback from our previously released mapping tool (that had a number of issues addressed in this one): /community/discussion/8386/2/new-version-of-mapping-tool/

Afternoon,

Here's the list of known issues we are currently working on ranked from highest priority.

* Viewing Routes - Slow / Timeout Errors. The longer the route you are looking at, the more time our current process needs to load the markers, points, and distance segments. We are currently optimizing this so people no longer get the 'Script stopped Responding' error messages.

* Edit Route -- We've had to take this functionality offline to fix some unexpected problems with dragging markers and editing notes.

* Garmin Integration

* Activity Detail Dropdown - Scrollbars

* Gear Tracker - Currency / Distance Calculation is Off

These are the highest priority ones now. We are working on a host of smaller ones as well. I appreciate the patience and rest assured that we are working very diligently to get these fixed for you!

Would it be possible to get openstreetmap.org as a map layer. In many places, especially in Europe, it has significantly better coverage than google maps.

One such example is the Isle of Man, which doesn't have any map data at all (except the coastline) on Google Maps: http://maps.google.co.uk/?ie=UTF8&ll=54.234735,-4.566193&spn=0.510482,1.49826&z=10&om=1

A First Look at Improved Printed Maps (Your Opinions Wanted!)

MMF User and Premium Members,

In the time since we launched printed maps we've been literally innudated with feedback -- some positive, some negative. We want to thank all those that took the time to write in...

First, a quick introduction. My name's Artur E. and I've been on the MapMyFitness team at the Denver office since the begining of the year and I'm working on improving the printed maps from their current state. Members who've purchased or accessed printed maps via their premium membership will have full access to the improved version, and these new printed maps will not cost any more.

The biggest issues we're aiming to address with the printed maps is the low resolution and absense of a dedicated cue sheet.

Segmented Maps

The improved printed maps will allow you to print a map overview like you have now, but also split your map into smaller distances, you will get to choose the distances you want, here's an example of a segment generated with an ideal distance of 10K.

Here's one with a distance of only 1K, of course this resolution may be a bit much if you're tracking the entire Tour De France stage

Each segment will be accompanied by the notes that correspond to that segment in particular, click on the images to view a full resolution version.

Cue Sheets

The second option we're looking at is generating cue sheets for cyclists, which will feature three mini maps showing the overall course of the route as long as notes, these can then be folded into threes. I will post a preview of this as soon as they're ready and I can get my hands on a color printer.

Your Opinions

If you have any ideas with how we can improve the printed maps, let your opinions be heard here, we look forward to reading them.

Thank you

Provide the ability to sort routes based on route name. I have a couple typical starting points for my maps, and I'd like to sort them so the routes with the same starting location are all together. Thanks!

my first post on here.....but I have a question I am hoping that someone can give me some good advice!

I have been training for triathlons for the last 2 years, and finally completed my first one about a month ago. However, I am NOT a runner, it is my weakest sport of the three, and I get very very sore knees. When I train, after about a 3 mile run, my knees get soo sore that if feels as if my kneecaps are literally moving each time I take a stride. Any advice please to make this stop!??
