Afternoon,
Here's the list of known issues we are currently working on ranked from highest priority.
* Viewing Routes - Slow / Timeout Errors. The longer the route you are looking at, the more time our current process needs to load the markers, points, and distance segments. We are currently optimizing this so people no longer get the 'Script stopped Responding' error messages.
* Edit Route -- We've had to take this functionality offline to fix some unexpected problems with dragging markers and editing notes.
* Garmin Integration
* Activity Detail Dropdown - Scrollbars
* Gear Tracker - Currency / Distance Calculation is Off
These are the highest priority ones now. We are working on a host of smaller ones as well. I appreciate the patience and rest assured that we are working very diligently to get these fixed for you!
Cheers,
-Kevin

Here are updates from work yesterday and last night:
Here are the things currently being worked on:
I'll check the notes issue to ensure that it's correct. Can you post the link to the ride in question?
Cheers,

guess its a matter of timing, but without edit or notes, i'm dead in the water.

Ok,
The Notes issue has been resolved. If yo added custom notes the system wasn't displaying or saving them. I just pushed a release out that addresses this issue.
I'm also auto-refreshing notes when you add and delete and allowing sorts.
We can't replicate the Garmin issue -- I was able to import fine, and then after saving I exported to both GPX and CRS which loaded fine in Garmin Training Center.
The Left/Right issue was determined to be the Auto-Routing system working against the flow -- We're working on a FAQ that will explain this but essentially the system tries to find it's way to the 'center' of the road which can confuse the notes if you're clicking your points close together.
So right now we're working on the Edit Route issue.
-Kevin
lizz:
Can you explain which activity detail? What browser are you using? Does it work now?
(We also pushed a css/style fix to the scrollbar on the suggest drop-down that we think affected Mac/Safari users)
-Kevin
My only suggestion at this point is to zoom in to a level where you can get close enough ... We'll look at ways to make this easier to use.
Cheers,
-Kevin
Can you please let me edit routes if I set my profile to use the old route engine?
Steve
I still can't export to Garmin CRS. I get to the point of putting in the desired pace, hit the download button and nothing. before the site upgrade, I would get a Save As dialog box.
I've tried FireFox on three different computers, IE6 on two different systems and IE7 on two.
I'm having the problem as well (not being able to export to Garmin CRS). Is the a part of new premium site? I have tried t save as a Garmin file in IE and Firefox.
Totally unrelated to mapping - sort of - but the 'roll over' advertising banner on the mapping page is driving me nuts! I know you guys need to get in the advertising money but seriously, it's so sensitive! If you try to map high or use the drop down menus at the top of the map it triggers the add. SO annoying! any chance you can move it? (I'm guessing not as it will be on contract but just thought I would try).
Other than that I LOVE the site! (I do think private/personal messaging would be a good thing too)

HI,
Just wondering if I am doing something wrong.
When I add my completed workout, I can't seem to access my gear. I check the little "yes" box when you get to the point of "are you tracking gear?" but then the gear that I have already inputted is not there. I find it in "my gear" but can't seem to access my shoes and bike from the workout.
Am I describing this correctly?
Thanks,
Team Lewis
Kevin,
Wondering about the issue where when you "show elevation", there does not appear to be a measurement of total elevation gain. For instance, a route that previously showied somewhere around 3000' of climbing might now say something like:
(-)33 ft (+) 804 ft
ascent 804 ft
descent 927 ft
I can't quite make heads or tails out of that but I know that route has somewhere around 3000' of climbing. This problem is repeated throughout my routes.
Thanks. Please let me know if I'm missing something or if this is something that's being worked on.
JF
Kevin,
I'm getting "File does not begin with '%PDF-'. " error when printing a route and check Print Notes (second page) option. This error came and went last week. Any thoughts? Browser problem?
Serge
why is no one from MMR responding to any so many of the save my route questions? No one can save to a Garmin file and many other issues?
I'm also not sure why you don't go back to the old design until all these bugs get ironed out?
This was a great site and now with all these issues and no support, many are leaving to other sites. All bugs should be tested (on all Browsers) and fixed before you launch a new site.
i signed up for premium service and the site doesnt seem to recognize that I paid for the service. It seems to think i am still a free use.
I cant print maps or get to any PDF functionality.
Please advise.
Hi Kevin
Really enjoying using your site in the build up to a mini triathlon.
I want to track all my sports, so have been trying to create a new workout for the football I played yesterday.
Every time I try to move to stage 2, I'm scuppered by a screen that pops up:
Cancel / Close Window
Create a New Workout Type
You can easily create a new workout type. In order for us to better understand this activity, and to enable us to estimate the calories burned while doing this activity, please complete the form below.
New Workout Type Name
What is the General Type of activity is this the most similar to in effort?
What is the Specific Type of activity is this the most similar to in effort?
The second question drop down menu never drops down, so I can't complete the new workout.
I've tried it in Firefox and Safari. Same result.
Can you suggest a way round?
Mark
An Update:
We are still working on:
I'll also take a look at the other issues and push out another update today.
Thanks for all your patience this week.

Skyao: Are you having problems with this today? I just logged in as you and was able to access this functionality fine. Please let me know
Cheers - Kevin
We've also added the 'Center' icon back on the map to indicate start location.

I use MapMyRide and MapMyFitness virtually every day. I've created 78 cycling routes in MapMyRide. For the last couple of days, when I "Search For Rides" and ask to see just my routes, I'm told that there are 78 routes displayed on 4 pages, but the display actually concludes before completing even the second page, so I can only see 43 of my 78 routes. The other 35 are no longer visible/accessible. This problem has come up in the last few days -- started 7/12 or 7/13 -- and I hadn't experienced this before. Any suggestions on how to have access to all my routes again?
Thanks,
Jim Adelson
Steve - this has to to with long route performance that we're working on. You take a 100 mi ride and break it into each waypoint then you could be dealing with 1,000's of points that your browser has to store in memory.
-Kevin
kevin@mmf: An Update:........
- Edit is Back Online
- You can now Drag / Drop Route Points
-Kevin
I see: "First edit your Route Map below by clicking on the map and by moving the points around."
How do you Drag / Drop Route Points ? I don't get a marker that I can drag (no circle with a + in it). I get that in the original draw stage, but not in the edit stage. (I can edit the notes OK - by clicking on the note text on the left side which makes the note appear at the point it pertains to.
I've saved a route THREE times now and while the route name shows up in my list, there is NO associated route (loop) shown on the map.
The route is a short .41 mile route on our church grounds.

kevin@mmf:An Update:
- Edit is Back Online
- You can now Drag / Drop Route Points
- Editting Notes Works
- Elevation is Fixed - It was a unit conversion issue.
We are still working on:
- Slow Script / Loading Issues
- Garmin Issues -- Note: We believe the issue is due to a recent ugprade with Garmin Connect. Please visit Garmin and download the most recent version of their plug-in that addresses some bugs they pushed out.
http://www8.garmin.com/products/communicator/
If this still does not work, please send the route in question to our feedback folder so we can work with samples.- Print PDF - We are working on a more detailed view for cyclists who are having problems visualizing the entire route.
I'll also take a look at the other issues and push out another update today.
Thanks for all your patience this week.

Kevin,
Just a couple of comments.
The last three rides I've created have no notes, even though I've had 'follow roads' and 'automatic notes' checked. Also, I don't think your elevation is 'fixed'. I created a ride today, that I just got done doing w/ 4 other people. MMR says I have ~1000 ft of ascent and ~950 ft of descent. Why are those values different when you start and end the ride at the same place (loop)? Total ascent should equal total descent when you start and end at the same spot. Also, three of the people I road w/ today had GPS devices (three different ones). All three were w/in 10' of our total amount of climbing, which was ~4050 ft. Not sure how MMR 'thinks' it was only 1000 ft of ascent.
I've said this before, and I'll say it yet again. Routeslip had a fairly accurate elevation module. Why have you guys not incorporated this into MMR??? And since I'm re-asking questions, where is my old Routeslip training data? I've asked for this a couple of times, and rec'd no response.
Some updates:
As for questions about elevation accuracy and the data sources we use:
We report ascent and descent stats for routes when they become 'significant'. This is currently set at about 60 meters of total climb. We can't guarantee a great deal of accuracy for routes with ascents < 60m, so we don't want to confuse our users by displaying inaccurate data. For long ascents, you should see your stats appear the the right of the elevation profile.
Our ascent and descent calculation algorithms don't count every small elevation change at every point because we need to filter out 'noise' in the underlying data. Prior to our latest algorithm change, we were reporting ascents that were in many cases too high. Our new algorithm gives more reasonable results for a wider variety of routes. However, since we know that this isn't 'perfect' quite yet, we've provided the raw data in CSV format so that users such as yourself can interpret the data as you choose.
Another reason we've released the raw data is so that we can collaborate to improve this feature. RouteSlip wasn't doing it the 'correct' way either -- it was just different.
-Kevin
Another way of thinking about elevation is this -- if you are plotting your route in a city, we use satellite-based radar data, so the 'noise' is the buildings around you, etc. Also, when you go over a bridge, that is 'noise' too
-Kevin
MK1Racer: We were advised by the owner of RouteSlip that his Training Log feature wasn't being used by anyone so he didn't recommend importing any of the training data. I can look into seeing if we have it in an old backup somewhere if this is really important to you...

Kevin,
I can't speak for anyone else, but I had over 50 rides logged in the Routeslip training log. I expected that when my account was migrated, me entire account would have been migrated.
As far as Routeslip's elevation data went, I cross-checked a few rides w/ people that were gathering GPS when they road, and the data from Routeslip was usually pretty close (+/- 25 ft total ascent). I can't say if there would be more 'noise' in urban areas, as I don't ride in those areas, but the Routeslip method seemed pretty accurate to me. Certainly more accurate that what I've seen here.
I don't know if it's an issue related to the new design, or if it existed before (I only joined very recently), but there's definitely a problem with session maintenance - 'remember me' doesn't work for logins, and I have seen instances when I have come back in a very short period of time and am already logged out. This has been mentioned in a couple of threads, but there's been no response, so I thought I'd add it to this thread:

Kevin,
You don't have a lot of room to talk about how 'correct' Routeslip's data were. I just entered a new ride into my training log. I didn't happen to have my bike computer handy, but I thought I knew what my time was (I knew what my avg. mph was, and it's a ride I've done before, so it's already in there). I knew about how long the ride took, so I put that in there. When I checked the avg. mph, it was a tick high, so I raised the time by 1 min. (1:21 -> 1:22). Avg mph was about right, but the big thing I noticed was that my calories went from 1720 to 1306! You're trying to tell me I burned almost 25% less calories because the ride was a minute longer? Somehow I don't think so.
I never really had any way to 'check' your calorie data, so I just took it at face value. Based on this most recent experience, I don't place a whole lot of faith in it. And I'd much rather have an accurate climbing value than the calorie data, even if it were accurate.
Wow, it actually gets better.
With a ride duration of 1:21:46, I burn 1736 calories. With a ride duration of 1:21:47, I burn 1303 calories. Who knew that 1 second made such a difference?

I was just coming here to ask about this. I reported it in another thread and after an initial question that I answered, there hasn't been any response. This is really annoying and I wish it would be addressed soon.
Hey, loading & editing my super-long route is relatively speedy today. Thanks guys.
Next issue with edit/update of a route: The distance-marker setting is not being saved. When I click to edit a route, the distance marker defaults back to 1, which is really ugly (and slow to draw) for long routes.
Keep up the good work!
Steve
Auto Routing with Notes is now up and running
I'll take a look at dynamically setting marker distances based on route length. I'm also having one of my developers look at the 'Remember Me' issue.
As for the calorie calculation issue -- right now we use a step-value calculation based on activity (METs), bmi, and speed bracket. We've been looking to update this formula.
Take a look at the Calorie Calculator in the Training Section as it explains the data source and methodology. Essentially we use METS tables that assigns a value for cycling between 10mpg and 12pmg, etc. So by changing the time you may 'step' into another bracket causing the calorie estimation to jump.
I welcome suggestions for an alternate solution from any health / training professionals out there! (start a new topic!)
Cheers,
-Kevin

Kevin,
That's all well and good, and I figured it was something like that. However, based on my recent experience, I think your granularity is waaaaayyyyyy off. Do you feel that the scenario I presented will give any where close to an accurate representation of actual calories burned? Your comments also make me wonder which of my rides are one the low side, and which are on the high side of the breaks.
Amen to that, what did happen to the lobby gentlemen? Was the heat MMF was getting just too much? Did MMF have to hide it so that all the NEGATIVE feedback MMF was receiving won't be seen by the masses? Was the pointing out of all the bugs getting to be too much? Maybe all those goodbyes from people not willing to put up with the MMF greed was scaring away new people?
The single thing that the MMF crew has shown the past few weeks is how little class they have.
The Lobby is indeed still there, you just can't see it. http://www.mapmyride.com/community/1/
Trying to find any way of adding notes to existing routes and/or change the markers, and getting nothing but "Please wait..." every time I try to update or save a copy. I had trouble saving notes a few weeks ago, but at that time, the problem was that the route would save, but the notes would not appear when the route was reopened. Now, the route saving process just goes off into the weeds for ever and ever amen.
The route I'm working on is at:
http://www.mapmyrun.com/run/united-states/tx/austin/387140118537
Groundskeeper:
does the new mapping tool work for you now that we've released it? Can you clear your internet cache and try? I logged in as you and editted your route adding the water stop near the end (underneath the overpass).
And the reason we pulled the Lobby from the homepage was that it was generating a lot of negative responses -- from our users that love the site, from our employees, from our investors. To be really frank I have put my heart and soul into this company, working 60-70 hr weeks, trying to make ends meet while providing a free service for 3 years now. I apologize if you feel that we have no class and all you can offer is negative criticism.
True, we have had some growing pains and this transition has not been the smoothest, but please do not think we're not diligently working hard to address every single issue.
If you would like to address anything specifically, please don't hesitate to email me at kevin@mapmyfitness.com
Cheers,
-Kevin
