     I just start this great work out getting me back into running slowly as its been since high school . It's called Couch to 5k and its a 9 week running program found at www.coolrunning.com.  I also found running music to put on your ipod where the guy runs with you and tells you when to start and stop your runs. Check itunes under podcasts and health section for the downloads.

    I've been wanting to try this program but was worried about being able to time when to start and when to stop runnng. This is going to help out so much and now I'm more motivated than ever to do this program. Now I just need to find a 5K to sign up for so I have a goal to work towards.

    I am on week 3 after spending an extra week on week 1 if that makes sense.Cool.

    I Love the start and stop times it really works well. The muisc is very energitic like and encourgement is great.

    I am also doing the program. I am just about to finish week five. Week five finishes with a twenty minuit run. I have also not been very active at all in years (maybe 15). A true couch potatoe. I t is hard to believe I will run for that long!

     This program has truely motivated me. The podcast is the key. The guy who lets you know when to run and stop really helps. One day my ipod battery was dead, and I did it by my watch. It sucked, and seemed so much longer.

    I am signing up for a 5K the last week of October. Very excited.

    I am now on week 8 of the program and it has been a god send. The prompts and music (although I would hate it not running) has really helped me improve my running beyond my own belief.

     Just wondering what I will use when it ends.

     I am now on week four and ran my first 5 minute run wow. It was intresting to see that I can do it again like I did in high school.

    When the program is done, I plan on making a mix in iTunes that has 5 minutes of warm up music, 30 minutes of high intensity music, and then 5 minutes of mellow music.

    cool that sounds great esoller. I just ran day 2 of week 5. 8 mins runs and Tuesday is the first 20 min run . I have a 2.5 mile route that I run I guess I need to extend that to 3.1 to be able run a 5k.

    Nice job matty. That first 20 min run is a push. This morning I finished day one of week 7 for a  25 min run. Since the program is all now just runs with no walking, I have switched from the pod cast to my own music mix. The first time (week six day 3) I ran with my favorite music, it felt awesome. The first time I really felt like a runner.

    Nice, can't wait to get to that point. The lbs keep falling off all tho slower as  I am plateuing losing a 1/2 lb to a 1lb a week only.

    Since I really don't care for the music with the podcast  .. I am really excited to finally make it to week 6 day 3 - from here on out there is just running with no walking so I am going to put together my own music to run to  - the map on this site is great  though, I wasn't sure how long my runs were - and I already do almost 4 miles in 45 minutes, so that helped me determine that my pace is good.  My next hurdle is that winter is coming up... I don't own a treadmill, I have been running at the fitness trail at my local college, any suggestions how to keep my workout going once the snow and ice are here?

    I don't know about running in the winter, it seems like a good chance to injure yourself on the ice and snow.  

     

      I am just completed wk 7 3rd run I think 8 ups it to 28 mins almost there looking for a run in my area of West MI for Thanksgiving day anybody have any ideas how to find local 5ks in your area?

    Hi Matty

    try your local sports shop for running events have a look in the running magazines usualy they have events local and international comming up even better have a look at map my run. good to see you are building up slowly don't worry too much about the aches and pains they go away after a while.Winter running is fun we do it here in New Zealand our winter season is what we call Harriers our summer is athletics both are done in Shorts and singlet when we race but we do wrap up well when training. You can also google running in your area. follow the 10% princepal

    Running in winter is the best time to go.  Less sweating, and that brisk air makes you want to get going quickly to generate some heat.

     I think you'll find that shorts with tights underneath is all that's required for your legs (unless you live in the prairies or in Ottawa/Montreal).  Make sure to cover up your torso, ears, and hands.  A little vaseline on the mouth/nose will reduce the dry skin, and voila!

     Winter runners are the true runners.  You'll feel good knowing you're out there while the other softies are snuggled at home.

    I just started day one of week one...and I am so excited I cant contain myself!

    The fact that it appears from posts here that this program actually works if just fuel for the fire...

    Crazy as it sounds, I am more motivated now at age 48 than I was at 35 ( too busy...lotsof varied excuses!), so I have to remember to pace myself...I used my nike+ for a mile brisk walk first today, and I think I would have had a stronger finish had I not had a mile under my belt first!

    For those who don't like Robert Ullrey's musical choices in his podcasts, there's an alternative .. the guys at podrunner have put together interval sets - including a c25k set.

    Wow it's great to read all of your progress. I am roughly following the couch to 5k plan, just building up my running with a mixture of walking and running. I cant wait to get to the 30min run all out.

    How is everyone else doing since it has been a month since anyone posted?
