HI all,
I'm a Nordic Walking instructor in Eugene OR and recommend this site to our students to find walks with the mileages and characteristics they want.
So, if other walkers head out our way, check the "walking" routes in and around Eugene, as the ones so marked will be great for Nordic Walkers using poles! That means reasonably wide sidewalks or paths, not too much traffic, lots of parks and other Nordic Walkers!
Hey There Nordic Walker,
How are things in beautiful Eugene?
I'm a runner, but curious to learn more about Nordic Walking. A local Running shop has started an intro program. Sounds like it might be a good cross-training program.
How are Nordic Walking poles different from Hiking/Trekking poles? I have a working knowledge of Hiking / Trekking poles from brands like REI, Leki, and Black Diamond.
Is Nordic Walking similar to the Leki FitTrek program from a few years ago?
I'm training for an Ultra and Nordic seems like a good cross training tool.
Cheers,
Steve
I'm a beginner in Central Texas. I just got some Rutlin Exerstrider poles. So far the problem seems to be that my stride length (I'm 5 feet tall) is too short and too fast for the poles, and I'm used to semi-race walking with a fast arm swing, so I take 2 steps to every pole movement, thus making it impossible to match opposite hand with foot. I'm thinking of lowering the pole height just a half inch to see if that helps when extending the arms forward.
I live in the literal middle of nowhere and there are no walkers or runners where I am, much less Nordic walkers. Heavy sigh.
MD I used to work for was a locum in Eugene. She said it was beautiful and great to practice for triathlons!

Hi Fellow Nordic Walkers,
I've been Nordic Walking for over a year. My routine is about 3 miles every-other-day. I walk in a lovely complex of paths that make up the Saddle River Pathways (Bergen Co., NJ). The sport doesn't seem to have caught on here in the northeast. I've yet to encounter another Nordic Walker.
Happy Trails,
Bill
Hi Nordic Walkers!
My mom's an avid Nordic Walker, but probably the only Nordic Walker in Munich, Germany. She probably does about 3 miles a day!
I've just dragged her on to this site and she's been dutifully logging her walks. I have a quick question - what activity type do you log your walks under? Did you make a custom activity or do you use a predefined activity under the 'Walk' section? The reason I ask is that the custom activities can't be included in a goal, so I'm looking for a standard one to replace it with.
Thanks,
Jess
