The beginning route takes you through some of the older houses. A brief hike through the park and you end up in the French Quarter. The walk down the cobble stoned streets and narrow alleys brings back the memories of the old days. A quick walk through Waterfront Park allows you to see some wild life on the Cooper River along with the Ravanel Bridge and Yorktown. location: Charleston, South Carolina distance: 3.29 mi. | Route Type: Walk tags: Flat, High Traffic Area, Pavement And Sidewalk, Quiet, Scenic, Urban created by: description: A very good and never dull walk. Takes you through some of Charleston's oldest and most historic neighborhoods. The route can be freestyled among any of the many alleys that interconnect. View the diversity and evolution of the structures while learning about the history of many from streetlevel displays. Enjoy a sunset over the Ashley River from the Battery where wildlife, dolphins, and the occasional fisherman are always present. Great route to meet people on. The return route brings you up the historic King Street neighborhood and the many shops and restaurants of Charleston. <br> <br> Great for anytime of the day and year round. During the day the route is completely safe; however, it is close to some sketchy areas and is thus not recommended to do alone at night. Highly recommended from Spring and Summer as the many gardens make for some pleasant smells, sights, and sounds. View | Video | Print | Bookmark | Write a Story | Tell-A-Friend |

location: Charleston, South Carolina distance: 2.89 mi. | Route Type: Walk tags: Flat, High Traffic Area, Pavement And Sidewalk, Quiet, Residential Area, Scenic, Urban created by: description: A great hour to two hour walk. Passes through a lovely historic district of houses. It is fairly guiet in the neighborhood with the smells of southern gardens throughout. A walk through Market Street allows you to sample several vendors along the track. A circut around Waterfront Park allows you to sample the gardens and fountains along the Cooper River. The end of the pier makes a great viewing location for sunrises, wildlife, ship watching, the Yorktown and Fort Sumter, and the Ravanel Bridge. Dolphins are quiet a common sight close to the pier along with the occasional fisherman. The return leg brings you back up market through the ritz of Charleston Place Hotel and up King Street allowing you to window shop and take in the aroma of restuarants and candy shops. One of my favorites year round. View | Video | Print | Bookmark | Write a Story | Tell-A-Friend |

Take a break from man as a loop around Waterfront Park offers superb viewing of the Ravenell Bridge and the Yorktown across the Cooper River. Off the pier chat with the fishermen as the Dolphins swim nearby.
