This is route #97 from Bicycling the Backroads of Southwest Washington. (The BTBSWW route is the loop on the lollipop.) The route is overall very nice, but what was once sparsely populated in 1995 has become more densely so now. The Maple Valley segment has become much more crowded since the book was first written, and SR-169 can be dangerous due to the high-speed traffic even though it has wide shoulders. The view from the Green River Bridge is amazing, and the stretch in our "Cumberland Gap" from about Veazie all the way to Kanaskat State Park is very, very pretty - fields and farms surrounded by pine-covered hills, with one really breathtaking view as you crest and hill and see the valley dotted with farms laid out before you
