Run Description
Stage 2 of the Green Belt Relay - 10.15 miles. Staines Bridge to Boveney Church. River Thames Towpath, Runnymede Memorials, Windsor Great Park, The route starts on the Thames Path next to Staines Bridge and beside Outback Steakhouse. Follow footpath between Thames Edge and bridge away from the river to climb steps to Clarence Street. Turn left and cross river on pavement on LHS of bridge. Once over bridge, turn left into The Hythe. Just before reaching first house, turn left onto path to river, then left again to follow path over footbridge and under bridge. Continue straight along the towpath. After about a mile the topath goes under M25 & A30 road bridges then past Runnymede Hotel. Continue along towpath, eventually around Pleasure Grounds, keeping next to river. Soon path runs between road and river. After another half a mile jump over small wooden fence next to gate (the Magna Carta Memorial is off to the left and just above the bottom of the hill in the distance). 100m after fence turn left over tiny footbridge. Cross road and go straight on across meadow towards wooden fence at opposite side. Go straight on thru' kissing gate and uphill, climbing steps and then taking path to left of JF Kennedy Memorial (a huge concrete slab). Follow path onto lane and continue to top. At T-junction with road cross over and turn left and uphill. At top, and just past wooden bus shelter, turn right into Castle Hill Road. Stay with Castle Hill Road as it then turns left. At crossroads, turn right into Bishopsgate Road. Continue straight along Bishopsgate Road and past Fox & Hounds pub(Bishopsgate Road does veer slightly right ater half a mile). On reaching park gate go straight thru' and after 20m veer right onto footpath across grass and thru' trees. At kissing gate, go thru' (to deer park) and straight on along the road. Follow road for 0.6 miles, at which point Copper Horse Statue is up on the hill to the left. At this point turn right onto the "Long Walk. You can see Windsor Castle a long way in the distance at the other end. After 1.3 miles go thru' kissing gate (out of deer park) and continue along Long Walk. At road cross straight over and straight on towards castle on Long Walk. On approaching castle, where you get stopped by a gate) turn left and exit park thru' gate into Park Street and past Two Brewers pub. Near end of Park Street stay right and uphill into St Albans Street. At T-junction cross over and turn left down Castke Hill. At bottom, turn right into High Street, staying on RHS (Windsor Castle is just to your left). Soon High Street becomes Thames Street. Continue downhill on pavement and eventually to T-junction at bottom. Cross straight over and go straight into pedestrian zone and over Windsor Bridge. Once over bridge, turn left into Brocas Street. After 30m, stay left of Watermans Arms pub (do not follow the main lane to the right of pub). At Eton Boathouse go straight on along narrow path on right of and down side of boathouse. Thru' path and straight on thru' large meadow on footpath next to river. Follow towpath under metal rail bridge, over two footbridges and onder road bridge. Almost immediately after passing under road bridge, turn half right onto well defined path across meadow. At other end cross footbridge and stay left along towpath (next to river). On reaching Boveney Lock, go straigh on past lock (do not take lane to right) and stay next to river on path to finish of stage at grassy opening between river and Boveney Old Church.
