Run Description
This route has a significant amount of off-road sections. Navigation is fairly straightforward but it might be worth checking it out on a 1:25000 OS map. The route also has many options to cut off corners to make the route shorter. Start at the Upper Basildon Village Hall and go down to Hook End Lane via the footpath at the far corner of the rec. The left turn off Hook End Lane isn't marked because the 'official' footpath starts 100m further down and then comes directly back on itself. I just scramble down the ditch and then the footpath goes straight up the field on the RHS of the hedge. At the top, the footpath isn't that clear but essentially follows the edge of the trees as you skirt around the back of the shooting school. After a bit of up and down you'll come out on the Aldworth road. The rest is generally straightforward. The footpath through towards Ashamstead can be a bit overgrown but is easy to follow. Adders Lane can be muddy in places as can Frying Pan Lane. You obviously have the choice whether or not to do Frying Pan Lane because a shorter option is to come directly back along Blandy's Lane.
